1408 Part 2 of 12 - After his latest book, he receives an anonymous postcard from The Dolphin, a very old but rather posh hotel on 61st Street in New York City, bearing the message "don't enter 1408". However, after being informed by Mike's agent, Sam Farrell (Tony Shalhoub), that the Fair Housing Act requires hotels to rent unoccupied rooms, the Dolphin reluctantly reserves room 1408 for Mike. - Video
1408 Part 3 of 12 - Arriving at the Dolphin, Mike is pulled aside by the hotel manager, Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson), who warns him that no one has lasted more than an hour in 1408. Olin offers Enslin an upgrade to the penthouse suite, access to documents regarding the deaths in 1408, and an $800 bottle of cognac if Mike would abandon his plan to stay at 1408. Mike accepts the documents and the cognac but insists on staying in the room and ridicules the belief in ghosts. Olin outright dismisses the possibility of ghosts, saying only that 1408 is "an evil fucking room" before giving Mike the key. - Video
1408 Part 4 of 12 - Mike goes through Olin's documents and photos on the way to room 1408. Once inside the room, Mike pulls out his Mini Cassette recorder and dictates on the unremarkability of room 1408. The room suddenly becomes exceedingly hot and Mike calls for a mechanic to fix the thermostat. - Video
1408 Part 5 of 12 - While the mechanic does arrive, he refuses to enter the room and merely tells Mike how to fix the thermostat which he does and leaves immediately after finishing his business. Later, Mike is startled again as the clock radio begins to play the same song. When he turns the clock off the display flickers and changes to read "60:00", then starts counting down from 60 minutes. Suddenly, Mike is unable to hear anything, apart from a tinnitus-like ringing in his ears, and opens the window to check his hearing; the window slams down, cutting a large gash in the top of his hand. - Video
1408 Part 6 of 12 - He rushes to the bathroom to wash the wound in the sink, but the water suddenly becomes boiling hot and damages his wound even further. His hearing quickly returns and he bandages his hand using a bandana from his bag. Wishing to go to a hospital, Mike attempts to leave the room; however his key breaks off in the door. He still manages to unlock the door, but then the doorknob falls off, trapping him inside 1408. - Video
1408 Part 7 of 12 - Mike begins to see and hear things, including visions of his daughter's time in the hospital shortly before her death, but he initially dismisses them as hallucinations. Among one of these strange visions is a face-to-face encounter with his own father, who tells him, "As you are, I was. As I am, you will be", a quote attributed to the Roman poet Horace regarding death. Mike also attempts to seek help from a man who appears to be watching TV in an apartment building opposite of 1408. However as Mike attempts to signal for help he notices the man is mimicking his exact movements. - Video
1408 Part 8 of 12 - Mike turns around to the same man behind him also attacking - this man appeared in Olin's photos as a dead victim. As Mike retreats into a corner the man disappears. Mike then sees the supposed ghost of a middle-aged man from an early 1900s era jumping out of the window, as well as a sobbing woman from the 1950s; both jump out of the window presumably to end their suffering within the room. Both appear as if being projected from TV screens from their respective eras. He makes several attempts to free himself from the room such as crawling through the air vents, where he is seen being chased by a mummified body. - Video
1408 Part 9 of 12 - Shortly after this attempt he opens the suite's fridge to see an apparition of Olin's office on the other side. He accuses Mike of crushing people's hopes of an afterlife, and the two exchange violent remarks. The fridge then reverts to normal and Mike, in a beserk rage, savages the interior. Mike maps the room's location finding that 1410 is next to 1408 and attempts to reach the next room via a window ledge, however the width of the building appears to go on forever with no other windows in sight. - Video
1408 Part 10 of 12 - Turning the cognac he got earlier from Olin into a Molotov Cocktail, Mike sets the room on fire and sits on the couch and smokes a cigarette. The fire then causes the hotel to be evacuated. Lily, who just arrives after she had been summoned by Mike, is stopped from entering the hotel, but tells the firefighters that Mike is in 1408. Mike throws an ashtray through the room's windows, intentionally causing a backdraft to overtake the room just seconds before firefighters batter down the door. - Video
1408 Part 11 of 12 - They get him out and, though burned, Mike is told that he will be all right. Mike attempts to tell the firefighters not to enter the room, as it is "evil". The next shot is a smiling Olin seated in his office, smoking a cigar saying "Well done, Mr. Enslin". Mike recovers in a New York hospital, Lily at his bedside. He swears that he saw Katie, but Lily refuses to believe him. After his recovery Mike moves back in with Lily, beginning work on a new novel about his stay in 1408. - Video
1408 Part 12 of 12 - While sorting through a box of items from his night in 1408 that Lily wants to discard, Mike comes across his Mini Cassette recorder. After some difficulty he manages to get the tape to play; it begins with Mike's dictation of 1408's appearance, but cuts in with audio from his interaction with the apparition of his daughter. Lily, who is standing by him listening to the audio, drops a box she was holding from the shock of hearing Katie's voice on the Mini Cassette recorder. The scene ends with Mike staring at Lily's face. - Video
